Trick or Treat

For Halloween, we tried doing some Microscope games with a horror theme. Microscope is kind of an odd fit for suspense or horror, because you usually know how things are going to turn out before you drill down and roleplay the details: you know the explorers are going to vanish mysteriously, before you play the scene seeing how it happens. But as it turns out, seeing the fine details, what really happened, can turn out a lot more horrible than you imagined…

These games were a first try, but as a concept I think it works. I still really want to try a “Curse of the Pharaohs” game, spanning ancient Egypt with scheming priests and tyrants, all the way to colonial archaeologists exhuming mummies and awakening terrible curses…
