"Sometimes in a movie the audience have significantly more information than the actors."

Quite true, which leads to techniques like <a href="http://arsludi.lamemage.com/index.php/10/normalvision-part-1/" rel="nofollow">NormalVision</a> to give players that kind of "audience" information.

This seems to ignore what I see as a major difference on the other side. Sometimes in a movie the audience have significantly more information than the actors.

Why are the heroes going into the warehouse, its a trap? Ah, but only the audience know that.

I agree the game should not be played as if the players ar watching a movie, having to follow the script that was predetermined by the writer.

To add to this: You can see the game not as playing out an already written script, but as the actual writing of the script. So afterwards the players can go: yea, we created that story!

Your first starred point there is quite valid. The player learns all that the character learns, at least at some level of abstraction, in such a way that the player is aware of player knowledge. He doesn't know the words for a 'fireball' spell, but he knows that his character knows this. In other words, a player should always know what his character knows, even if he doesn't know everything his character knows.
