As a player in that game, I will say that it did transform play for me. I think it was around that time (though my memory may be deceiving me), that the &quot;morally dubious wizard&quot; chose to try to find some peace (after getting that damn staff). I agree that knowing your players was key to this, and it could have worked much like a normal-vision were it not for the choice with how &quot;real&quot; we wanted the experience to be. I think it would have failed if we were told &quot;this is the real you, and we made you think you were a Wizard (or Fighter, or identical Half Elf) only to save the city.&quot; It only changed the character as much as we wanted them to be changed. 
I think it was cool that we all seemed to take it differently, but in complementary ways.</description>
