Our Last Beautiful Dream

I could tell you about our In This World game the other night, when we explored the topic of Dreams. I could tell you about the Leviathan haunting our nightmares, or planned dreams as a therapeutic tool, or the whole world sharing one wondrous, endless dream in the millisecond before all humanity goes extinct.

I could tell you about all those worlds we made, because they were beautiful, and making them together was surprising and amazing.

But that’s not really the point, is it? It’s not just about the end result we created, it’s about the process that got us there. How each of our ideas sparked someone else to make something they would have never come up with by themselves.

Instead, I find myself wondering what you would have made if you had sat down to play, with this topic and the same statements we made, statements like:

  • People don’t always remember their dreams
  • Dreams feel real when you’re dreaming
  • People don’t control their dreams
  • Dreams include things from your real life
  • Dreams can be fantastical
  • Dreams are sometimes nightmares

I’m laying down cash-money that, if you’ve played In This World, then just reading those statements got some corner of your brain thinking “Hmmm, but what if that wasn’t true..?”

That spark, those ideas buzzing around in your head right now: that’s the point of the game.
