Microscope Union Needs Playtesters
Microscope Union is already much more polished than I expected, which means it’s time to let slip the hounds of playtesting.
As usual, I’m looking for people who will actually play the game and give feedback, not just read it. Because Union is a built on Microscope, you also have to already know how to play Microscope to participate.
If you’re in, email union-playtest + lamemage.com or leave a comment here with your address in the email field. Make sure to include the last few role-playing games you’ve played (other than Microscope) so I know what kind of spread of players we’ve got.
Game on!

@Brian: Very cool! You’re going to like Chronicle…
Also, one of the more radical uses of Union is to show things like how nations, art forms or schools of thought interacted, collided, and created the next generation of things.
I actually attempted a similar idea of my own devising with my last microscope game. Except, rather than a family lineage, it was a lineage of starships bearing the same name. Our inspiration was Star Trek’s USS Enterprise, of course. Our one rule addition was that the focus must always relate directly to one of our ships-of-the-name. It could include grand political moves, but it must always be clear how this affects the crew of our ship.
We began with the first FTL human ship, and ended with a multi-species crewed generation ship set out to explore and colonize Andomeda.
This expansion sounds really, really awesome, and I can’t wait to see it in action. That said, I’m not in a position to playtest right now.
Hey, is there still a change to join? I am from Germany, playing Fiasco, Pathfinder, Universalis, Dawn of Worlds and Midgard (german rpg, similar to Pathfinder).
Welcome, Hungary! Nope, not too late.
I hope I am still on time! I am part of a Hungarian gaming group. We usually play Warhammer/Ars Magica/ DnD, but we really love Microscope as well. We would love to test Union.
Not at all, Albey! Email is on the way…
Oh darn! I would have loved to get in on this, having playtested your last game, and as my gaming session is on tonight. Is it too late? We normally play Microscope/Kingdom/Fiasco, but we’ve played D&D and Rogue Trader as more traditional style games, too.
Playtest rules have been sent out!
I think I got everyone but shout if I missed you.
Hallo from Russia. I represent constant gaming group and we really love Microscope (even use it as a foresight tool)). Ready to test Union.
