Microscope Echo Needs Playtesters
Four years ago today, Microscope is released:
would-be players: “Oh cool! A game about time travel!”
me: “Actually no. Players pick where in time they want to explore but the characters in the game can’t move through time. Except, uh, forwards. At the normal speed.”
would-be players: “But… I can haz time travel?”
Fast forward to now. Microscope Echo is ready for playtesting. Yep, you can haz time travel.
As previously described, the game uses time travel, but play is really about exploring alternate histories. Seeing how the world would turn out differently if you went back and changed something. And now it’s time for playtesting!
Same drill as before: because Echo is a Microscope spin-off, you have to already know how to play Microscope to participate. I’m looking for people who will actually play the game and give feedback, not just read it. If you’re interested, email echo-playtest + lamemage.com or leave a comment here with your address in the email field. Make sure to include the last few role-playing games you’ve played (other than Microscope) so I know what kind of spread of players we’ve got.
Change the past to change the future.

@lcx: Next time! This one is ready to be put to bed.
As always, sir – you have my sword if it;s not too late.
Luis, you are just under the wire! I’m about to send out the details about the close of the playtest, so you’ll have a little time to try it but not as long as everyone else.
That’s all the volunteers I need, for now anyways. Thanks everybody!
Hi Ben!
I’m highly intererested in playtesting Echo, me and some of my players are writers and have been playing some creative oriented games (microscope, Lexicon).
If still there is space for some quick playtest I and my players would be happy to help you out.
Late but not too late! I’ve already gotten some great feedback but there’s room for a little more.
Hi,
Is it late for the playtesting of Echo?
I’m a big Microscope fan! Just started a Dungeon World campaing where we created the world with it, i’ve convinced two group of friends to buy it and play it from time to time, just so that i get to play it with both.
On the “other rpgs” department: i’ve been a long time GURPS master (ten years in various campaigns, over the almost twenty since i first bought the third edition manual), and sporadically played D&D ad AD&D3. More recently i’ve played with Marvel Heroes Roleplaying and Adventurer Conqueror Kings, other than the previously mentioned Dungeon World.
Hi Ben,
I was just introduced to Microscope by a friend and it’s so much fun. I am attending a convention in Minneapolis, MN in July (CONvergence), and would like to host a gaming session of Microscope there to introduce it to new people. I have questions for you about how to do this, if it’s allowed, and if it is, how best to go about promoting Microscope so that those who play the game can buy it afterwards. Could you contact me? [address hidden]. Thanks!
Yep, I’ve already gotten some great feedback but there’s room for more!
Sorry I’m late to the announcement. Still time to get in? I just sent an email with the requested data.
I’d love to try this mod out too. :)
Experience since the last playtest includes Monsters and Other Childish Things, nights black agents, Must be Tuesday, and a whole host of other indie productions.
My group is a combination of email and chat, and we meet weekly when there’s a game on.
Interested. I have a mixed crowd, some under 10.
D&D in all variations, Pathfinder, Mouse Guard, Fiasco … and then various board games that I encourage heavy RP with: Mice & Mystics, HeroQuest, One Night, Resistance.
Namaste:
I’d be interested. Last few games have been CortexPlus Shadowrun hack, Dungeon World, HeroQuest, and D&D5e.
Welcome emails have gone out to playtesters! If you volunteered but didn’t get one, let me know.
Myself and my play-by-post group would love to take a crack at playtesting this. Together, we’ve played D&D (advanced 1st through 5e), Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, FATE Core, Shadowrun, FUDGE, Kult, Dungeons: The Dragoning 40k, Donjon, Monsterhearts, Toypocalypse, Outbreak: Undead, Mutants and Masterminds, HERO, d20 Modern, Wild Talents, and a variety of homebrew systems. And Microscope, of course. Our pace isn’t always that of greased lightning, but we should be able to give some useful feedback. Thanks!
Tried to send this to email above but got a failure notice, so I will try this way.
I’m Skalchemist on G+, would love to get this for a playtest or two in the next two weeks.
